Larnaca is reputed to be the oldest town in Cyprus and it isn't hard to see why - some of it's buildings, such as the Church of St. Lazarus, date back to the ninth century! Much loved by tourists for it's historical feel as well as it's picturesque location on the coast of Cyprus, Larnaca is also home to the largest international airport on the island, making it the first town that many tourists stop in when on holiday. Larnaca International Airport has a single multi-level terminal and sees approximately five million tourists through it's gates every year. The popularity of Cyprus as a tourist destination has led to the proposed and partially completed expansion of the Larnaca Airport; at present these expansions consist of a runway extension and a renovation of infrastructure though it is expected the terminal size will eventually be increased also.
Larnaca International Airport is serviced by a number of international airlines including BMI, British Airways, EuroCypria, Monarch, Thomas Cook, Thomson Fly and XL Airways from the United Kingdom. As Cyprus is best explored by car it is advisable that you hire a car from one of the desks located in the arrivals hall - Sixt, Avis, Budget, Hertz, Argus, Europcar, National, Thames and Pestas all operate from the airport. As Larnaca as quite close to the Demarcation Line manned by British forces it is important that you are aware of which roads to take to avoid getting caught out. The airport is located close to the outskirts of Larnaca, so by following the signs upon exiting the airport you shouldn't have too much difficulty locating the town. For look for the A2 if you would like to head into Nicosia.
